There were 697 new cases of COVID-19 and 3 additional deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Of the new cases, 168 were from Hot Spring County. ADH believes many of those from Hot Spring County are from the Ouachita River Correctional Unit in Malvern.
There were 79 cases from Washington County, 67 cases from Benton County, 51 from Pulaski County, 40 from Sebastian County, 29 from Faulkner County, 26 from Yell County, and 26 from Columbia County.
The Governor said he has directed the Department of Health to double the number of new contact tracers from 350 to 700. This increase will require an estimated $22 million in additional funding. The Governor said he intends to ask the CARES Steering Committee for a recommendation. It will eventually require legislative approval.
More than 125,000 tests have been conducted in the month of June. The Governor announced a new goal of 180,000 for the month of July.
