The Governor held his daily COVID-19 update in Hot Springs. The health department reports 274 additional cases and 6 additional deaths since yesterday afternoon.
State Epidemiologist Dr. Jennifer Dillaha broke down the age groups of positive cases to date. They are as follows:
Ages 0-17- 1357 cases (10%)
Ages 18-24- 1469 cases (11%)
Ages 25-44- 5012 cases (38%)
Ages 45-64- 3840 cases (29%)
Ages 65 and up- 1512 cases (11.5%)
134 of the deaths reported have been Arkansans over the age of 65.
The effort to test all nursing home residents and staff continues. So far 13,000 residents have been tested and 113 of those have tested positive. Testing is complete at 150 facilities. There are another 250 facilities yet to be tested. The Governor said he hopes to have an announcement tomorrow regarding the timeline for re-opening long-term care facilities to visitors.
Commerce Secretary Mike Preston said unemployment claims have decreased from a high 122,000 to 106,000 weekly claims. He said the previously waived work-search requirement will be reinstated the week of June 28.
