There were 340 new cases and 6 additional deaths reported today.
The Governor delivered the daily COVID-19 briefing from Jefferson Regional in Pine Bluff today where the first case in the state was reported more than 2 months ago.
The Southeast Region of the state has 148 active cases. The region has a higher testing rate per capita than the state average. Health Secretary Dr. Nate Smith says the area has seen a disproportionate number of fatalities due to COVID-19.
When asked about the continued increase in cases, the Governor said the timing of this second peak is a surprise. It has impacted the implementation of Phase 2 of re-opening. The Governor said today he will make an announcement regarding if and when we can enter Phase 2 at tomorrow’s briefing.
