The Northwest Arkansas region continues to lead the state in new cases, with Washington County posting 53 new cases today. As Governor Hutchinson explained, the different regions of the state are experiencing the epidemic at different times. While Central Arkansas was home to the first spike in cases, the Southwest and Northwest regions are the biggest challenges right now.
Secretary of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism Stacy Hurst provided a brief update on additional park openings and encouraged visitors to continue practicing social distancing. State campgrounds will open on Monday, June 1.
Secretary of Health Nate Smith noted that the state is hosting a number of important testing events, including an event in Dardanelle today from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Their goal is to test 200 people. Tomorrow, testing events will be held in Fayetteville, West Memphis, De Queen, and Pine Bluff. Next Saturday, June 6, testing events will be held in Jonesboro, Wrightsville, and El Dorado. The goal is to test 500 people at each of these events.
