Governor Hutchinson shared a map showing where the active COVID-19 cases are located in the state broken down by county. The county with the most active cases is St. Francis, where the Forrest City federal prison is located. Pulaski County, which is also the state’s most populous, has the second-most number of cases. Pulaski and St. Francis are the only counties in Arkansas with 100 or more active cases. “The majority of our counties do not have any active cases that we’ve identified, that doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t anyone infected,” said Secretary Nate Smith.
Governor Hutchinson said that 23,949 tests have been conducted in the month of May. He’s set a goal of conducting 60,000 tests in May, which is why Community Health Centers of Arkansas (CHCA) has partnered with the state to expand testing efforts. To help reach the governor’s goal, Shannon Spencer with CHCA announced that these centers all across Arkansas have committed to conducting a combined 2,000 tests a week. Arkansans can call 1-833-508-0774 to find a community health center that’s conducting testing near them. CHCA also offers free tests to those who are uninsured.
