The $5 billion balanced budget for the next fiscal year passed the House by a vote of 90-8.
The House has also passed several bills allocating money from the $120 million expected surplus from the current fiscal year.

The bills devote $5 million to public school facilities for open enrollment charter schools. Another $5 million will be directed to matching grants for broadband for public education.
Under the proposal, the Health Department will receive $2 million of the surplus for its Breast Care Program. And close to $10 million will go to the Department of Correction for county jail reimbursements, compensation pay for employees, and operating expenses to open 200 additional beds.
