On Wednesday, the House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee advanced SB3, a bill that seeks to eliminate affirmative action programs in state government. The proposed legislation states that the state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in matters related to state employment, public education, or state procurement.

Meanwhile, the House passed HB1181, which grants certified nurse midwives the authority to admit and discharge patients from licensed hospitals if they are granted privileges.

Another measure, HB1236, was passed by the House, allowing public school employees to be released from their contracts for the subsequent school year if they submit a written request by May 15.

The House passed HB1245, creating the Arkansas Behavior Analyst Registration Act, which establishes an optional registration process for behavior analysts treating children with autism and provides oversight from the Arkansas Psychology Board.

Additionally, SB46 passed the House, officially changing the name of East Arkansas Community College to the University of Arkansas East Arkansas Community College.
