ARKANSAS HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF ROY RAGLAND ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Little Rock, Arkansas (March 1, 2024) –
The Chief of Staff for the Arkansas House of Representatives, Roy Ragland, recently announced he will retire later this year. His last day will be June 28, “It has been the honor of a lifetime serving the Arkansas General Assembly in this position,” said Ragland. “I will forever be grateful to Speaker Carter, Speaker Gillam, and Speaker Shepherd for the opportunities I’ve had working for the House.”
Mr. Ragland served as a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives from 2005 through 2011.
Subsequent to his legislative service he worked as Deputy Director of Governmental Affairs for Secretary of State Mark Martin from 2011 until December 2012. He began his career on the House staff in December 2012 as Director of Member Services. In 2016, he was named Deputy Chief of Staff and in 2017, he was named Chief of Staff for Speaker Jeremy Gillam.
When Speaker Gillam resigned in July 2018, Speaker Matthew Shepherd retained Ragland as his Chief of Staff.
“Roy’s dedication and tireless commitment to the House has helped the General Assembly through numerous challenges and successes,” said Speaker Shepherd. “From organizing a session in a basketball arena during an unprecedented time to daily ensuring members and staff have what they need to serve the people of Arkansas, Roy has been an invaluable member of my leadership team and I will miss his counsel. I wish him the very best in his well-earned retirement.”
Mr. Ragland graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in History in August of 2018. He earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from UALR in 2020.
He and his wife, Gail, live in the Welcome Home community in Searcy County.
