House members have completed their business for the first week of the 2023 Regular Session.
On Thursday, the House passed HR1001. This resolution establishes the rules for the House for the 94th General Assembly.
Changes in the rules from the previous year include adding language that incorporates bill filing deadlines and fiscal impact statement requirements for legislation related to state-sponsored health benefits and scholarships. The deadline to file retirement legislation, certain health care legislation, and employee health benefits plan legislation is January 23.
The deadline to file constitutional amendments and lottery-funded scholarship legislation is February 8.
Another change to the rules specifies that once a bill is assigned to a committee it will then be listed on that committee’s agenda. Previous rules for the 93rd General Assembly directed committee chairs to set the agenda.
The legislature will not convene on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The House will reconvene on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
